The main function of a block heater in a diesel vehicle is to preheat the engine coolant and, indirectly, the engine block. A working block heater is crucial in cold environments. Using non-distilled water or the wrong mixture of antifreeze, as well as power surges, can cause lime and calcium to build up and cause the block heater to burn out. This is a genuine Mopar block heater that is installed directly in the stock location.
